The Gothic Chalice (Ostrich Egg Vase) 2nd Edition

This is the 2nd Edition Ostrich Egg Vase, commissioned especially for The FISM Convention in Stockholm 2006…The Ostrich Egg Chalice stands on a wide fluted Myrtle Burr Base, positioned on this is a fluted walnut and Ebony Platform, this platform houses three tapering African Blackwood Fluted Columns each with Capitals & Bone Trims…situated inside the three outer columns is a Spiralling African Blackwood “Staircase” linking it to the upper platform…the three lobed upper platform is in African Blackwood: from this platform there is an African Blackwood ‘Cage’ housing a Bone Spiral Liner which forms the main support for the actual Egg. The Ostrich Egg is hidden within a casing of American Walnut with a Circular Trim of ‘Snake Wood’ and this in turn is attached to the upper platform by means of a further fluted stand in African Blackwood with Bone Trimmings…The Extended Finial on the top reflects the other timbers already used and the crowning glory to this stunning edition is a ‘Star within a Sphere’; a traditional style used in European Turning Catalogues from the 17th Century…. Height approx 30”
This Edition is presented in a Jointed Box of London Plane (Lacewood) with its distinctive and delightful ‘lace’ patterned grain, lined with Red Baize & Brass Livery. In addition there is a specially sized ‘ Tip Over Box’ using a traditional method to ‘vanish’ the Egg to complete this amazing example of Magical Artistry.
